Cremation is a personal and family decision. The reasons for preferring cremation are varied. While your own personal preferences are extremely important to you; you may also want to discuss your choices with other family members. Some individuals may be hesitant to accept anything that is different from traditional burial, others may feel they need to see or have the body present; and still others may be negative to the idea simply because they are misinformed. At the Colyer Funeral Home, we make every effort to answer your questions honestly, and offer you information you need to help make difficult decisions.

Direct Cremation

There are no rites, ceremonies, or gatherings. A direct cremation includes the necessary crematory and transportation charges and the filing of the death certificate. An obituary preparation can be done for an additional fee.

Cremation w/Graveside Service

Following cremation, the funeral home staff then assists the family in arranging graveside committal services.

Cremation w/ Memorial Service

Following cremation, the funeral home staff helps the family personalize a meaningful gathering. Burial of the urn is optional at this time.

And finally, Cremation w/Rental Casket

This option is becoming more and more common with families. The body is embalmed and there is public visitation held at the funeral home, followed by a full church or chapel service, with all the personalization that is requested by the family. Following the service, the body is then taken to the crematory, and for obvious reasons, burial cannot be conducted until the cremated remains have been returned to the funeral home. Once they are, which is usually within 24 hours, excluding weekends, then the funeral director can further assist the family with graveside committal or the family at this point, may take care of burial with the chosen cemetery on their own. Any staff member at the Colyer Funeral Home can visit with family and answer any questions about this particular option.
