Bernard Haas

George Bernard Haas, 84 , of Torrington, Wyoming, died April 17th 2006 at Community Hospital in Torrington, Wyoming with his wife Hazel and family at his side. Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 22, 2006 at the First Wyoming United Presbyterian Church in Torrington, Wyoming with Reverend Curtis Hill officiating. A private family internment in Valley View Cemetery in Torrington will be conducted at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given through Colyer Funeral Home to 'Lifeline' or the 'Special Touch Program' at Community Hospital or to the family. Arrangements are under the direction of the Colyer Funeral Home and friends are invited to send condolences to the family at www.colyerfuneralhome.com Bernard was born to George Fredrick Haas and Edith Emma (Arnold) Haas in Arnold, Nebraska on February 6, 1922. As an infant he moved with the family to a homestead near Veteran, Wyoming. He was the fourth of eight children and was raised and educated in the Veteran community. He graduated from Veteran High School in 1939 and attended one year of college at the University of Wyoming in Laramie, Wyoming before returning to the Veteran community to begin his farming career. He married Hazel Bernice Linhart on December 1, 1943 in the Presbyterian Church in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. The couple farmed near Veteran, Wyoming for 55 years. They moved to Torrington in 1990 and retired from farming in 1998. He was a 4-H leader, a Cub Scout Master and a sports booster for many years. He loved Wyoming football and basketball and never missed a television broadcast of a Wyoming game. He is survived by his wife Hazel of Torrington, Wyoming; and three sons and daughters-in-law, Stanley and Gail Haas of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, Gary and Micki Haas of Torrington, Wyoming and Dennis and Lynn Haas of Cheyenne, Wyoming; two sisters Vivian Hill and Mary Ellen Fullmer, and a brother and sister-in-law Howard and Joyce Haas all of Torrington, Wyoming; four grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews; and special extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Helen Booth and Emmajean Terrell; and two brothers Hubert and Leslie Haas.
