Daniel Carlos Marquez, 70, died Saturday, Aug. 13, 2011, at his home in Torrington. Funeral services for beloved husband, father, and grandfather will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 19, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with Bishop Greg Zarling officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Valley View Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the family to be designated later. Visitation will be Thursday at the funeral home from 3 to 7 p.m. and the casket will be open briefly prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Colyer Funeral Home and friends may send condolences to the family at www.colyerfuneralhome.com. Daniel was born Aug. 24, 1940 in Lyman. He was loved and will be greatly missed by his wife of fifty years, Dolores Giddings-Marquez, his children Michael of San Francisco, Calif., Martha and her husband Lonny Schlager of Torrington, David and his wife Kymberli of Amarillo, Texas, Erik and his partner Warren Knapp of Seattle, Wash., James and his wife Aylin of Laramie, Wyo., Christopher of San Francisco, Jordan and his fiancee Angie Spurgeon of Colombia, Mo., and Estella and her fiancé Nick Kutschara of Scottsbluff, and his twelve beautiful grandchildren. Daniel was a retired Master Sergeant with the United States Air Force and he and his wife raised eight children, all born during Daniel’s twenty years of distinguished service. As a family man, he was involved with the Boy Scouts of America for fifteen years while in Rapid City, S.D., Riverside, Calif., and Torrington. He remained active in his community through the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), serving as Commander of the DAV Chapter 4 as well as Commander of VFW Post 2918 in Torrington. Daniel enjoyed traveling, having visited 54 countries and 49 states, and greatly enjoyed seeing his grandchildren grow up, and keeping track of his family’s genealogy. Daniel is survived by his loving wife, children, and grandchildren; brothers, Tony (Ruby), Richard (Christina), Victor (Linda), Michael (Marjorie), Ralph, and Andy (Tracy); sisters, Julie (Larry) Mason, and Margie (Roodie) Ernest; and a large extended family. Preceding Daniel in death were his paternal grandparents Papa Moe and Mama Micky; his parents Frank Sr. and Louise; brother, Frederick; sister Rosalie; and brother, Frank Jr.
