Dorothy Newton

Funeral services for Dorothy Leon Newton, 95, will be held at 2p.m. Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at the Colyer Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at the Valley View Cemetery. Dorothy died August 1, 2012 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Dorothy L. Newton at P.O. Box 325 Scottsbluff, Nebraska 69363. Visitation will be Monday from 3pm to 7p.m. and the casket will be open briefly following the service. Dorothy was born April 20, 1917 at Indian Hill, Wyo. the daughter of Merl and Amelda (Wollam) Teeters. She was born and raised at Indian Hill and graduated from Burns High School in Burns, Wyo. She attended one year of Normal Training and taught school at times. She married William ‘Wallace’ Newton on November 18, 1939 in Douglas, Wyo. They ranched in several areas in southeast Wyoming at first with her parents and later on their own. They later moved to Heritage Estates in Gering. Dorothy was a member of the Local Farmers Union #493 where she was once named Woman of the Year. She was a trained volunteer for the Hope Line in Torrington and once served as the Grand Marshal for the Goshen County Fair. She was affiliated with the Truth Church since childhood. Dorothy is survived by her husband Wallace Newton of Gering; a son Garold Wallace "Gary" (Terri) Newton also of Gering; a step-son Winford Beaver and his fiancé’ Cindy Ann Rasmussen of Hudson, Wyo.; sister Lauree Johnston of Cheyenne, Wyo.; sister-in-law Betty Teeters of Lingle, Wyo.; former daughter-in-law Christine (LeRoy) Casterline of Casper, Wyo.; grandchildren Garold Wallace "Gary" Newton II of Toluca Lake in the Los Angeles area of Calif. and Jack Doyle (Rebecca) Newton of Ft. Collins, Colo.; step-granddaughters Bridget (John) Farro of Scottsbluff, and Londa (Darrell) Baggs of Colo.; great granddaughters Alannah Newton, and McKennah Newton; step great granddaughters Lnay Baggs, Lacee Baggs, and Larami Baggs; and step great grandson Dylan Baggs. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers John (Lillie) Teeters and Joel (Norma) Teeters; a sister Berthinia Standifer; and brothers-in-law Enoch Baumgardner, Richard Johnston, J.E. Standifer, and Robert Schreck.
