Erma Petty

TORRINGTON, WY ...... Funeral Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated for ERMA LUCILLE PETTY, 83, at 10am on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at the St. Rose Catholic Church with The Rev. Father Michael Carr officiating. Burial will follow in the Valley View Cemetery. A Wake/Rosary service will be held on Monday evening, May 19 at 7pm at the church. Erma died on Friday, May 16, 2008 at the Heritage Health Care Center in Gering, Nebraska. Visitation hours will be held on Monday, May 19 at the Colyer Funeral Home from 1pm to 6pm. The casket will be open at the Rosary and closed at the Mass. Those who wish may direct memorial contributions in Erma's memory to St. Rose Catholic Church 'Little Miracles' pre school. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Colyer Funeral Home and friends are invited to send condolences to the family at www.colyerfuneralhome.com Erma was born on December 20, 1924 in Casper, Wyoming the daughter of Willis and Catherine (Arthur) Bowman. She grew up and received her education in Torrington and then traveled to California to work in the WWII aircraft plants. Erma returned to Torrington where she met the love of her life, Joe Petty. The couple married on April 19, 1946 in Gering, Nebraska. They then lived in Albin and Cheyenne, Wyoming briefly before moving to Texas and New Mexico for a short time. Erma and Joe settled in Torrington, Wyoming and raised their daughter, Barbara Ann. Erma spent her final years in Heritage Estates in Gering, Nebraska. Erma was an Avon representative, and she was active in the Altar and Rosary Society where she served as State President. She was also a member of the Saint Joe's Guild and a member of the Grass Roots Gals. Erma enjoyed working at the greenhouse and she found great enjoyment in her own yard and garden. She and Joe were active volunteers visiting friends at the nursing home and the couple found enjoyment in decorating veteran's and other neglected graves at the cemetery. Erma and Joe met and made many friends in the community especially after retirement while riding their bikes. Grandsons and great grandchildren were Erma's pride and joy. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Ann (Randy) Adams; two grandsons, Joel (Francie) Adams and their children Tucker and Colter; and James (Meadow) Adams and their children Keelie and Kaden; a step-sister, Gertie Eddington and many nieces and nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Joe, brother LeRoy Bowman, sisters, Margaret Mitchell and Betty Eddleman and their husbands.
