Hubert Terrell

TORRINGTON, WY . . . . A celebration of life will be held for HUBERT O. TERRELL, 93, on Monday, April 16, 2012 at 10:30a.m. at the First Wyoming United Presbyterian Church in Torrington with the Reverends Burton Kugler and Steven Seng co-officiating. Burial will follow in the Valley View Cemetery. There will be visitation hours held on Sunday from 3 to 7pm at the Colyer Funeral Home Chapel and all are welcome to stop in and share some memories of Hubbie, as he was affectionately known to many. Hubert passed away on April 12th, 2012 at the home in Torrington that he shared with his wife, Esther. Arrangements are under the direction of the Colyer Funeral Home and friends are invited to send condolences to the family at www.colyerfuneralhome.com Hubert Otis was born on January 16, 1919 in Cornell, Nebraska the 8th child of George and Carrie (Bucknole) Terrell. He lived with his family on various farms outside of Cornell until his family moved to Torrington, Wyoming in 1928. They then farmed in the Torrington area and as Hubert grew up he helped on the farm along with his brothers and sisters. Hubert met Esther Watson in Torrington and the couple were wed in the Baptist Church on January 17, 1947. They farmed for several years thereafter in the Torrington area, Gordon, Nebraska, and Mirage Flats, Nebraska. In 1963 Hubert started work as a custodian at the Veteran School and he remained in this capacity as the local schools consolidated. He retired in December of 1987 from Southeast Schools. Hubbie also drove school bus routes and activity buses during his tenure. Over the years, Hubert enjoyed teasing and joking with the students and teachers alike. He and Esther were heavily involved in the community and for many years they attended the South Goshen Presbyterian Church; continuing their involvement even after moving to Torrington. The George and Carrie Terrell family was very close and most holidays were spent together. Hubert enjoyed dancing, camping, playing cards, bowling, visiting and community service. He was a member of the IOOF, Farmers Union, and the Veteran Fire Department. Hubert was a life well-lived and his laughter and joking nature are remembered by his many friends and relatives. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Esther, who has lovingly cared for him these past few years in his failing health. He is also survived by his three children, daughter, Carol Troutt and her fianc é, Pat Corley, son,Del Terrell and his wife Amelia, and daughter, Connie Terrell; four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; one brother, Marvin Terrell, and two sisters, Bernice Riley and Chloa DeVoge. He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters and their husbands, four brothers and their wives, and several nieces and nephews.
