Leo Hackett

TORRINGTON, WY.... Funeral services for LEO E. HACKETT, 85 will be held on Monday, October 22, 2007 at 10 am at the River of Life Church in Torrington, Wyoming with Reverends Timothy and Jerry Hackett, and Major Jeffrey Hackett officiating. Visitation hours will be Sunday October 21, 2007 from 3-7pm at the Colyer Funeral Home and the casket will be open at the church. Burial will follow at the Valley View Cemetery in Torrington. Leo died October 17 at Goshen Care Center. Memorials can be made to the Gideons International. Leo was born June 18, 1922, the son of Ira Rufus Gates and Ella Marie(Campbell) Hackett in Burwell, Nebraska. He attended school until the eight grade and worked on the family farm until he was nineteen. Leo went to Fort Worth, Texas where he attended Southwestern Bible College. He married Lois Hazel Moss on February 28, 1943 at Forth Worth, Texas and came to Torrington in 1947 for one year. The couple then moved to Arkansas for two years following their brief stay in Wyoming. They also lived for a short time in Fort Worth, Texas. In 1951 they moved back to Torrington where he farmed and worked for area farmers. Leo worked for the Wyoming Highway Department from 1954 to 1987 as a surveyor. He loved to farm and raise cattle. He belonged to the River of Life Church and the Gideons International. Leo is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law; Jean and George Wilhelm and Sheila and Rod Sterkel all of Torrington, and Helen and Fred Zag of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, five sons and daughters-in-law; David and Sharon Hackett, Reverend Jerry and Jan Hackett, all of Torrington, Major Jeffrey and Danni Hackett of Carpenter, Wyoming, Reverend Timothy and Pam Hackett of Chesnee, South Carolina, and Rodney and Janice Hackett of Wickenburg, Arizona, thirty-five grandchildren and forty great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, daughter Karen Collins, one brother Floyd, four sisters Alice Palmer, Gladys Nelson, Dorothy Henderson, and Frieda Hackett, three grandsons and one granddaughter.
