Linda Derr

LYMAN, NE.....Memorial services for LINDA JO DERR, 63, will be held Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at 10:30am at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Morrill, Nebraska, with the Reverend Paul Cain officiating. Linda died on July 11, 2008 at her home. Cremation has taken place. A parting of the ashes will take place at another time. Memorials can be made to the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Morrill or the Lyman Voluntary Fire Department. She was born Linda Jo Smith on June 15, 1945, the daughter of Carl and Leona (Bauer) Smith, in Scotts bluff, Nebraska. Her family owned a dairy farm south of Torrington, Wyoming where she received the majority of her education. She met and married Raymond Derr in Torrington at Our Savior Lutheran Church on March eighth, 1963. She then finished her education, graduating from Lyman, Nebraska in 1965. The year of 1980 started her journey and career as a library assistant with the Morrill public school system, first as a volunteer, then as a paid employee. She also worked many other areas of the school, including woods class for the junior high and freshman classes, covering detention, copying for teachers, and unofficial counseling to many. She retired her invaluable experience and knowledge in 2007, after 27 years in the school system. She was loved by many and was fond of saying she had many children to call her own throughout her years in the school. Linda had a loving and caring heart for youth and loved “all of her kids” dearly. She enjoyed knitting, small crafts, and collecting dog and sheep nick knacks. Linda was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. Survivors include her husband, Raymond Derr of Lyman, WY, sons David and wife Laura Derr of Henry, NE, Darin and wife Jake Derr of Cozad, NE, three grandsons Granger, Colton, and Ezekiel Derr, all of Cozad, NE, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and one sister.
