Loretta Herdt

TORRINGTON, WYOMING...........Funeral services for LORETTA “RED” HERDT 84, will be held at 1pm Saturday, September 5, 2009 at the First Congregational Church with Reverend Matt Gordon officiating. Burial will follow in the Valley View Cemetery. Loretta died August 29, 2009 at Community Hospital. Memorials may be made to the Special Touch Program at Community Hospital, Riverside Zoological Foundation, or the First Congregational Church. Visitation will be at the funeral home Friday from 3pm to 7pm, Saturday from 9am to 11am and at the church prior to the service. Arrangements are under the direction of the Colyer Funeral Home and condolences may be sent to the family at www.colyerfuneralhome.com Loretta was born June 13, 1925 in Johnstown, Colorado the daughter of Jacob and Christina (Schmidt) Weickum. They moved when she was young to Huntley, Wyoming where she grew up and received her education, graduating Huntley High School in 1943. She married Ted Herdt on October 6, 1946 in Torrington, Wyoming. She wallpapered and painted with her mother-in-law for a while before her and her husband started Herdt’s Paint and Stucco which they ran until his death. She still painted and wallpapered with her children for several years. Loretta’s main love was her family. She also enjoyed baking, cooking, cake decorating, crocheting, gardening, traveling, playing cards, and her many pets. She was a member of the First Congregational Church formerly the First United Church of Christ and a forty two year member of the American Legion Auxiliary where she helped establish and worked the steak feeds and bingo. Loretta is survived by two daughters Rhonda Harvey and her husband Doug of Torrington, Wyoming, and Rene Owens of Gering, Nebraska; three sons, Randy Herdt and his wife Karen and Kevin Herdt and his wife Kimberly of Torrington, and Barry Herdt and his wife Tawnya of Powell, Wyoming; a brother Kenneth Weickum of Gallup, New Mexico; fifteen grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; eight brothers; and four sisters.
