Marian Marlatt Sittner

A Celebration of Life for Marian Sittner, 94, will be held Saturday April 18th at 1:30 pm in the Emporium Banquet Hall in Hawk Springs, Wyoming. Marian died April 5th, 2026, at the Goshen Healthcare Community and cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the Goshen County Library or Waggin’ Tails Animal Shelter. Arrangements are under the direction of Colyer Funeral Home and condolences may be directed to www.colyerfuneralhome.com Marian Marlatt Sittner was born to Glen H. and Helen Smith Marlatt on October 3rd, 1931, in Hawk Springs, WY. She was about eight minutes older than her twin, George. The family moved to Yoder, WY in 1934 where Marian attended school and graduated valedictorian in 1949. She attended Southeast University Center, now Eastern Wyoming College, and continued her education at the University of Wyoming. She met the love of her life, Laurence Sittner, at one of the infamous Yoder dances. She and Laurence married on November 22 nd , 1953 in Torrington. Laurence and Marian raised four children in Torrington where she was a stay-at-home-mom until their youngest entered school when she began working at Stockman’s Livestock Auction one day per week and Panhandle Coop five days per week. She saw to it that her children had a great life, always putting them first. Laurence and Marian purchased a farm in Veteran, WY in 1989 where they built a home. They moved to the farm to “retire” in the mid 1990’s. Together, they were able to live life the way they were meant to. They raised Angus cattle and hay, cared for many cats and their beloved dogs. They enjoyed tending to the land and sharing it with their family for years to come. Marian took care of her grandchildren during the summer months, having fun adventures together riding bikes, making chocolate malts, reading books, singing at the top of their lungs, taking the ever-favorite crusades to Springer Reservoir to swim, “shoot the moon,” and where Marian never missed the opportunity to drive a little too fast over the hills just to tickle their tummies. Following Laurence’s death in 2008, their eldest great-grandchild needed a devoted caretaker. Marian took on the responsibility of watching William three days a week for over two years creating a special and precious connection. She spent many more happy years on the farm. She was very independent and managed life as a single woman with strength and grace. She took care of everything – from the puncture weeds to the pheasant trees to the rattlesnake population. Marian was a natural artist, creating paintings and special birthday cards and poems for her loved ones. A music lover, Marian could play the piano by ear and always enjoyed any opportunity to sing to her family. She was a voracious reader, as evidenced by the numerous books, magazines, comic books, and newspapers she collected. She was a caretaker to anyone or anything who needed her. Marian was a thoughtful, progressive, forward-thinking woman; someone who always stood for what is right and cared for all creatures - something she instilled in her children and grandchildren (that and to make sure to always carry a tissue or hanky). Her energy, light, wit, and charm will live on in those who were fortunate enough to be part of her life. Marian is survived by her four children and their spouses, whom she loved as her own: Cindi and Dennis Huckfeldt; Kelly and Aleata Sittner; Andrea and Gregg Griffin; and Kurt and Ladona Sittner all of Torrington. Her grandchildren: Teran Sittner of Longmont, CO; Alison Griffin Larsen and Wade of Sheridan, WY; Markie Griffin Ames and Jan of Manhattan, KS; and Adam Sittner and Cameron of Laramie, WY. Her great-grandchildren: William, Luke, Holt, and Annabel Larsen; Jude Gilbert and Rafe Ames; and Gideon and Ezra Sittner. Her brother Gordon Marlatt of Laramie, special neighbor and friend George Peet, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Laurence, an infant brother Bobby Burton Marlatt, twin brother George Marlatt, sisters Lois Sittner, Shirley Russell, and Margaret Fleenor and special sister-in-law Carol Marlatt.
