Opal Harvey

TORRINGTON, WYO... Funeral services for OPAL HARVEY, 87, will be held at 2:00pm on Monday, February 27, 2006 at the United Methodist Church with Reverend Ora Dailey officiating. Burial will follow in the Valley View Cemetery. Opal died on February 24, 2006 at the Goshen Care Center in Torrington. Visitation hours will be held at the Colyer Funeral Home on Sunday from 3pm to 7pm; and Monday from 9am to 11:30am. The casket will be closed at the church service. Those who wish may direct memorial contributions in Opal's memory to the United Methodist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Colyer Funeral Home and friends are invited to send condolences to the family at www.colyerfuneralhome.com Opal was born on April 22, 1918 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska the daughter of Ruben and Ivis (Gering) Lobdell. She grew up and attended school in Gering, Nebraska; graduating from Gering High School in 1936. She married Vernon Harvey on October 8, 1937 at Alliance, Nebraska and the couple farmed in Banner County. They moved to Torrington in 1959 and purchased the 'Taylor Grocery Store' & 'Taylor Motel' on the west highway. Mr. Harvey died in 1979. Opal served as a cook at the Torrington Junior High School for several years. Then on June 10, 1990 she married Edward Hornby in Torrington. He passed away in 2003. Opal enjoyed being with her grandchildren and she loved to garden and cook. She also liked dancing, playing cards, crocheting, and knitting. She was a member of the Methodist Church and she was a 'Pythian Sisters' member in Harrisburg, Nebraska. She is survived by two sons, Richard Harvey of Torrington, Wyoming; and Doug Harvey and his wife Rhonda also of Torrington; two grandsons, Shain (Mary) Harvey of Henderson, Nevada; and Shad Harvey of Torrington; three granddaughters, Shanna (Mark) Nash of Wichita, Kansas; Holly Richards of Chugwater, Wyoming; and Lisa (Bart) Smuin of Vernal, Utah; and nine great grandchildren, Kayla, Karly, Kara, and Kacey Harvey; Bailey Wright, Stevie Ann Richards, Brandan Donovan, and Macie and Brady Smuin. In addition to her two husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers Clyde and Jack, and one sister Hazel Wineman.
