Funeral services for PAUL EDWARD BROOKS, 73, will be held 2pm Tuesday May 12, 2026, at the Colyer Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Kiley Calloway officiating. Cremation will follow the services. Visitation will be at the funeral home Tuesday May 12, 2026, from 9am to 11am and the casket will be open one hour prior to the service. Paul passed away May 5, 2026, at his home in Gering, Nebraska. In lieu of flowers memorials can be directed to the Special Olympics of Wyoming or Nebraska in Paul’s name, Arrangements are under the direction of the Colyer Funeral Home and condolences may be sent to www.colyerfuneralhome.com Paul was born October 10, 1952, in Torrington, Wyoming to Paul and Grace (Marlin) Brooks. Born and raised in his hometown of Torrington, his life was very fulfilling right from the start. He attended school in Torrington, where he participated in football and wrestling. Paul was a very proud graduate of the Torrington High School class of 1972. After graduating high school, he participated in the Special Olympics. Paul was a very hard worker and did everything with passion. One of his passions was when he was employed by Lincoln Elementary School where he worked as a custodian for over 15 years. One thing about Paul is that he was a huge help to all those around him, he was always willing to give a hand when needed and you can guarantee when he was giving that helping hand, he was doing it with a smile on his face. It was also said that “Paul never knew a stranger’’. After working for the school as a custodian, Paul made his home in Gering, Nebraska. It was there he found numerous hobbies that enriched his life even more. He could make almost anything with his hands, bird houses especially. He loved bowling, his Gering Bulldogs, participating in the Special Olympics in Nebraska, making his appearance in several of the Scotts Bluff County parades and most importantly, spending time with his family and friends. Paul was extremely patriotic, usually dressed in as much red, white and blue as he could be and not just for the 4th of July! He made sure that he thanked each and every veteran that he met for their service. Rooted deep in family and friends, Paul was also very devoted to his faith as a Christian. He knew and loved Jesus, thanking Him each and every day for the hope of salvation, knowing someday he would get to go home to his family and friends that awaited him. It was on that day, May 5, 2026, that his promise was fulfilled and he was welcomed into his heavenly home safe in the arms of Jesus. Paul’s tender demeanor will be greatly missed by all those that were lucky enough to know him. The family would like to give a very special thank you to all the staff and caregivers at Region 1 OHD in Scottsbluff for all the loving care they provided for Paul over the years. Paul is survived by his sister Pauline Huckfeldt, brother Bobby Brooks, niece Kimberly Huckfeldt, nephew Kenny Brooks, great-niece Kaeli (Grace Huckfeldt-Mundt) and numerous friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Dewey Brooks and his brother-in-law Jim Huckfeldt.
