A Celebration of Life for RICHARD “DICK” VERNON HARVEY, 86, will be held at 10am on Saturday May 23, 2026, at the SonRise Church located at 1100 East Valley RD in Torrington WY. Pastor Brent will say a Prayer for us. Rich passed away December 25, 2025, at the Mitchell Care Center in Mitchell NE and cremation has taken place. Memorials may be directed to Shriners Children Hospital in Rich’s name at https://www.shrinerschildrens.org/en/ways-to-give The Colyer Funeral Home assisted the family with the cremation arrangements and condolences may be sent to www.colyerfuneralhome.com Rich was born January 25, 1939, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Vernon and Opal (Lobdell) Harvey. Rich attended school in Scottsbluff. There he played basketball, track and his senior year he played for the six-man football championship. Rich say's they lost. He also attended the Jr College in Torrington, Wyoming and later a trade school in Pueblo, Colorado where he learned Morse Code and became a Telegraph Operator for the railroad which he worked for about 11 years with them. Rich then went to work at Kelley Bean in Morrill, Nebraska where he was the Traffic Transportation Manager doing traffic tariffs. Rich worked closely with Kevin Kelley, who told Rich's niece Shanna, “That Dick would come in and tell jokes to get everyone laughing, and he always had a story to tell.” Rich retired from Kelley Bean after 31 years. March 1, 1972, To August 8, 2001. Rich enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, making trips to Deadwood, South Dakota for some gambling, and spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed telling his niece's and nephew's stories his Uncle Charlie Harvey told him. Growing up he would go spend time with his Uncle Jack and Aunt Loraine Lobdell who lived in Little Rock Arkansas. While there they all would spend a lot of time fishing. Rich was a member of the Country Club, Mason at the Masonic Lodge where he served as Worship Master in 1975. Rich was also a Shriner. He enjoyed being a member of all, particularly helping with getting information out about the Shriner's Hospital for Children. Rich also helped with getting the Chariot Race's at the old airport, which Kelley Bean sponsored. Rich is preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Opal (Lobdell) Harvey, his brother Douglas Harvey and great/great-great nieces Paige and Avery. He is survived by his sister-in-law Rhonda Harvey of Torrington, Wyoming, nephews Shain and Shad of Torrington, Wyoming, niece's Shanna (Mark) Nash of Wichita, Kansas, Lisa (Bart) Smuin of Vernal, Utah, Holly Richard Lauck of Lead, South Dakota, great nieces/nephews are; Kayla, Karly, Kara, Kacey, Brandan, Brady, Masie, Kord, Bailey, Stevie Ann, great-great nieces/nephews are; Isabella, Everly, Bryce, Zoey, Nectali, Annalise, Braxton, Beckett, Alicia, Drake, Rowen, Maisen, Acel, and Lande.
