Sarah Cano

A Funeral Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated for SARAH LAREZ CANO, 79, at 10am Friday, March 11, 2011 at St. Rose Catholic Church with The Reverend Father Michael Carr officiating. Cremation will follow the service. Sarah died at her daughters home in Scottsbluff, Nebraska on March 5, 2011. A Rosary/Wake service will be held on Thursday at 7pm at the church. Memorials may be made to either the American Cancer Society or Prairie Haven Hospice. Visitation will be Thursday at the funeral home from 3pm to 5pm and the casket will be open at the rosary. Sarah was born April 12, 1931 in Raton, New Mexico the daughter of Catarino and Amada (Melendez) Larez. In 1937 her family moved to Lingle, Wyoming where she attended school. She went to school and completed the sixth grade. She had two sisters and five brothers. She married John Cano on June 30, 1947 in Mitchell, Nebraska. They lived in Torrington, Wyoming while he worked at the sugar factory. Sarah was a devout Catholic and was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church. She gratefully appreciated and loved spending quality time with her family and was so excited at the birth of every grandchild and great grandchild. She also enjoyed the small but very important things in her life, like going camping, garage sales, bingo, taking their dog for a ride, gardening, and visiting friends with her beloved husband, John. She is now in a peaceful rest where she will no longer suffer pain or loneliness. As a loving and devoted mother, she will be extremely missed. Sarah is survived by three sons, Benjamin Cano and his wife Liz of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Thomas Cano and Victor Cano and his fiancé’ Renee of Colorado Springs, Colorado; three daughters, Helen Negrette and her husband Tom and Frances Moreno of Colorado Springs, and Christine Duarte and her husband Manuel of Scottsbluff, Nebraska; a brother Robert Larez and a sister Isabel Velasquez both of Denver, Colorado; twenty-one grandchildren; and nineteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband John; a sister Mary Alird; four brothers, Sebastian, Jason, Tony, and Julian; a son John Jr.; and two grandsons.
