Wayne Ervin Hahn

TORRINGTON, WY …. WAYNE ERVIN HAHN, 86, passed away peacefully at Torrington Community Hospital on Wednesday, October 29, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer. Mary, his wife of 60 years, was by his side, along with many family members. Memorial services will be held at the United Methodist Church in Torrington at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, November 3rd with Reverend Matt Gordon and Reverend Brian Kroeger co-officiating. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be directed in Wayne's honor to the Senior Center or the youth program of your choice; two of Wayne's favorites were baseball programs and 4-H. Arrangements are under the direction of the Colyer Funeral Home and friends are invited to send condolences to the family at www.colyerfuneralhome.com Wayne was born June 10, 1929 the son of Reuben and Ruby (Benshoof) Hahn on their ranch east of Jay Em, WY. He started school at a one room schoolhouse, moved into Prairie Center through the 10th grade, then transferred to Torrington High School where he graduated in 1948. He studied at Eastern Wyoming College prior to joining the Army National Guard in 1949. Eventually he was drafted into active duty and served with the 10th Mountain Division and the 7th Infantry Division during the Korean War from March 1952 – May 1953. Upon his return he wed Mary Hughes on February 27, 1955. The two began their family and farm/ranch business four miles north of Torrington. Wayne’s love of family and ranching was the driving force behind his lifelong success. He was always quick with a smile and personified the statement “he never met a stranger”. His even temper, quick wit and friendly demeanor led him into many community service roles. These included, President of Arnold Drain, a member of the Goshen County Fair Board, two terms as Goshen County Commissioner, and numerous other youth volunteer positions. Wayne was also a 62 year member of American Legion Post #1. A big part of Wayne and Mary’s life was the United Methodist Church and Gleaner’s Union. Survivors include his wife Mary; children Cindy Hawkins of Loveland, CO, Shelley (John) DuPuy of Lyman, NE, Tom (Teresa) Hahn of Glenwood Springs, CO, Bruce (Gina) Hahn of Hillsborough, NC; grandchildren Amy (Chris) Boyd of Wellington, CO, Sarah (Nathan) Crowdes of Aurora, CO, Katie (Matt) Anderson of Dhaka Bangladesh, Jensen Hahn of San Francisco, CA, Logan and Jessica Hahn of Glenwood Springs, CO, Cameron and Delaney Hahn of Hillsborough, NC; step-grandchildren Dorothy (Jesse) Carlson of Southern California, Jake DuPuy of Austin, TX, Abbey and Carlye White of Edmond, OK; four great-grandchildren; siblings Bernita (Leo) Fowler of Billings, MT, Arlene (Alan) Arnold of Nixa, MO, sister-in-law Phyliss Hahn of Lusk, WY and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Merle.
