September 8, 1929 - April 19, 2006

TORRINGTON, WYO..... Funeral services for ALBERTA MONTZ, 76, will be held at 10:00am on Monday, April 24, 2006 at the First Wyoming United Presbyterian Church with the All Saints Episcopal priest, The Rev. Mary Jellison officiating. The casket will be closed. Burial will follow in the Valley View Cemetery. Alberta died on April 19, 2006 at the Torrington Community Hospital. Those who wish may direct memorial contributions in Alberta's memory to All Saints Episcopal Church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Colyer Funeral Home and friends are invited to send condolences to the family at www.colyerfuneralhome.com Alberta was born on September 8, 1929 in Sioux County, Nebraska the daughter of John and Mabel (Folden) Lashley. She grew up and received her education; graduating from Liberty High School near Morrill, Nebraska in 1947. She immediately started her teaching career in Sioux County rural schools in western Nebraska. She married Robert L. Montz on November 20, 1949 at Morrill, Nebraska. Alberta went on to continue her education at Chadron State College and received her Bachelor of Science in education followed by her Masters in education. In 1965 the couple moved to Torrington, Wyoming where Alberta taught History, Sociology, and Psychology at Torrington High School. During her teaching career, she guided many student teachers who were attending the University of Wyoming. Alberta also served on the North American Accreditation Committee. In 1975, she and Bob moved to their ranch north of Torrington. Alberta retired from teaching in 1986. When her husband Bob died, she moved to her current address on East 20th Avenue. In 1996, Alberta was elected the first woman commissioner for Goshen County where she served for two terms. She retired in January of 2005. She was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Torrington; a member of the Order of Eastern Star in Morrill, Nebraska; and she was a member of the Goshen County Cattle Women's Association. Alberta was an avid reader and she loved ranching. She is survived by her daughter, Penny Wells and her husband T.L. of Scottsdale, Arizona; a granddaughter, Kimberley Haseman and her husband Scott of Fayetteville, Arkansas; great granddaughter, Katelynn Haseman of Fayetteville; a brother Howard Lashley of Mitchell, Nebraska; and four sisters, Alta Lewis of Mitchell, Nebraska; Betty Hoagland and her husband Wayne of Bayard, Nebraska; Vera Wilson and her husband Barney of Oraville, Washington; and Patricia Rhoades of Lafayette, California. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Melvin, Ralph, and Delbert; and one sister Ellen.
