Alex Floyd Schaneman Sr.

June 16, 1928 - May 18, 2013

Funeral services for ALEX FLOYD SCHANEMAN, Sr., 84, will be held on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at 10am at the First Congregational Church with Reverend Matt Gordon officiating. Burial will follow in the Valley View Cemetery. Alex died on May 18, 2013 at the Goshen Care Center Alzheimer’s Unit in Torrington. Visitation hours will be held on Tuesday at the Colyer Funeral Home from 3 to 7pm and the casket will be open prior to funeral services at the church. Those who wish may direct memorial contributions in Alex’s memory to either the First Congregational Church or to the Alzheimer’s Unit at the Goshen Care Center. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Colyer Funeral Home and friends are invited to send condolences to the family at www.colyerfuneralhome.com Alex was born on June 16, 1928 in Torrington, Wyoming the son of Martin and Katherine (Reifschneider) Schaneman, Sr. He grew up and attended school at Torrington. He started farming in the Sheep Creek area and on June 1, 1947 he married Elsie Keller at the First Congregational Church in Torrington. The couple had been married for 65 years at the time of his death. In 1980 Alex and Elsie moved to Torrington and bought a farm south of the Rock Shop. Alex grew sugar beets and he was in the Top 3 Producers in Wyoming for several years running. He had been the Jaycees farmer of the year and he served several terms on the Chalk Buttes School Board. Alex retired in 2005. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and he liked fishing and bowling. Alex was a member of the First Congregational Church and was a former member of the Torrington Elks Lodge and the Torrington Moose. He is survived by his wife Elsie of Torrington; his 4 children, son Alex Floyd, Jr (Kathleen) Schaneman of Laramie, Wyoming; son Bailey (Bonnie) Schaneman of Torrington, Wyoming; a daughter Valerie (Craig) Grant of Torrington; and son Martin (Linda) Schaneman, III of Scottsbluff, Nebraska; four sisters, Clara (Marvin) Miller of Scottsbluff, Nebr; Elsie (Albert) Hopp, Marie Riggs, and Lorraine Eisenbarth all of Torrington; and two brothers, Robert (Nancy) Schaneman of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Richard (Judy) Schaneman of Torrington; 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Martin Schaneman, Jr, and three sisters, Lilly Baker, Martha Schwindt, and Betty Morgheim.
