Katherine 'Kathy" Swanson

Funeral services for KATHERINE M. SWANSON, 75, will be held at 9:30am Saturday, February 25, 2017 at the United Church of Christ in Lyman, Nebraska with Pastor Cindy Bowker officiating. Burial will follow in the Valley View Cemetery in Torrington. Katherine died February 21, 2017 at Heritage Estates in Gering, Nebraska. Memorials may be made to the family. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday from 3pm to 5pm and the casket will be closed at the service. Katherine was born May 25, 1941 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska the daughter of Harry and Marie (Schmidt) Gabel. She grew up and received her education in Minatare, Nebraska graduating high school there. She attended Junior College in Scottsbluff for one year. She married Richard Swanson on June 2, 1962 and they moved to Huntley, Wyoming where they farmed. She also did bookkeeping for local farm and ranch businesses. They later moved to Torrington. Katherine enjoyed baking, gardening, playing cards, Bible study and bowling. She was a member of the Lyman United Church of Christ. Katherine is survived by two sons Mike (Susan) Swanson of Torrington, Wyoming and Corby (Desi) Swanson of Geneva, Nebraska; two brothers Alvin (Iva) Gabel of Torrington and Harry Gabel Jr of Scottsbluff, Nebraska; and grandchildren Nichole Swanson and fiancé Tyler, Courtney (Gordon) Kautz, Jeannie Hatterman, Micah Hatterman, Josh Swanson and Wyatt Hatterman. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother and sister-in-law Richard and Ann Gabel.
