January 11, 1926 - December 13, 2013

Memorial services for ROBERT EDWARD KASTNER, 87, will be held at 11:00a.m. on Saturday, December 21, 2013 at All Saints Episcopal Church with The Reverend R. Cope Mitchell officiating. Robert died on December 13, 2013 at the Torrington Community Hospital and cremation has taken place. Those who wish may direct memorial contributions in Robert’s memory to either “Gracie’s Promise” or to the “School Back Pack” program c/o All Saints Episcopal Church. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Colyer Funeral Home and friends are invited to send condolences to the family at www.colyerfuneralhome.com Robert was born on January 11, 1926 in Alliance, Nebraska the son of Edward and Lottie (Musgrave) Kastner. He grew up and received his education; graduating Alliance High School in 1941. He then joined the US Navy and served in the Pacific Theatre during WWII on a minesweeper as radio man. He was discharged in 1945 and returned to Alliance where he operated the family grocery store. He married Arlene Taylor. Robert worked as a professional land man in the oil exploration business and the family lived in Alliance, Hastings, and Sidney, Nebraska; Denver Colorado; Casper, Wyoming, Logan, Kansas, and Wolf Point, Montana. During this time, Robert started his own company, “Kastner Oil Properties, Inc.”, which he operated for many years. His wife, Arlene, died in 1985. In 1987 he married Mary Ellen Smith. Robert was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and flying. He was a member of the All Saints Episcopal Church and a member of the Denver Association of Petroleum Landmen. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen of Torrington; two sons, Monty (Ruby) Kastner of Midland, Texas, and Gregory Kastner of Cheyenne, Wyoming; two step-sons Gerald ‘Smitty’ (Patricia) Smith of Valrico, Florida and Michael (Lorna) Smith of Torrington; a step-daughter, Su (Mac) McKiney of Torrington; 8 grandchildren, Andy Kastner, Christopher Kastner, Rich Kastner, Jennifer Rose Kastner, Jenny Deines, Mark Smith, Billie Bob McKiney, and Monica Miura; and many beloved great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Arlene; two brothers, Marvin and Wayne; four grandchildren Donna May Smith, Riki Lynn Kastner, Cody McKiney and Crystal Boysun.
