Betty Clay Engle Arnold

TORRINGTON, WY.....Memorial services for BETTY ANN CLAY ENGLE ARNOLD, 86, will be held on Monday, September 29, 2008 at 11 am at the Gorman Funeral Home Platte Chapel in Wheatland, Wyoming with burial to follow at the Wheatland Cemetery. Cremation has taken place. Memorials can be made out to the Goshen Care Center in Torrington, Wyoming. Betty Ann died on September 10, 2008 at Goshen Care Center. Arrangements are under the direction of the Colyer Funeral Home and friends are invited to send condolences to the family at www.colyerfuneralhome.com. She was born in Denver, Colorado on the February 23, 1922, the second daughter of Lyle B. and Linnie (Freeman)Clay. Her family lived in Casper and Sheridan for a short time. The family then later moved to Wheatland where she received her education and graduated with the class of 1940. As a young lady, she was past honored Queen of Jobs Daughters Bethel #10 and was active in basketball, church and singing in the choir. She also sang from time to time with the Harry Deranger Orchestra. In 1940 she was married to Alan Garvin Engle, and from this union two sons were born. Garvin later died in an auto crash in 1949. Moving back from Butte Montana, she raised her two sons in Wheatland where she worked as a secretary and practical nurse. In 1958 she met and married Ronald Leo Arnold. The family moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming where she helped her husband with his insurance business and adding three more boys to the circle. After Ronald passed away Betty lived in Denver, then moved to Torrington, where she resided until her death. She enjoyed playing golf, bridge, playing the piano and organ, being around her family, visiting friends, and reading. She had a great sense of humor, and enjoyed laughing at a good joke. She is survived by one sister Margaret Dockter of Torrington, WY, six children; step-daughter Barbara Prickett and husband Glen of Thornton, CO, Jim Arnold and his wife Sharon of Torrington, WY, Bill and his wife Evie Arnold of Houston, TX, Ron and his wife Karen Arnold of Aurora, CO, Michael and his wife Patricia Arnold of Kerrville, TX, Richard and his wife Donna Arnold of Westminister, CO, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren who will miss her deeply. Betty was preceded in death by her first husband Garvin and her second husband Ronald, her parents, and one sister Mildred Baker.
