TORRINGTON, WY . . . . Funeral services for FRED MAI, Jr., 87, will be held at 2:00pm on Tuesday, November 27, 2007 at Our Saviour Lutheran Church with Reverend Marvin Temme officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Valley View Cemetery. Fred died on November 23, 2007 at Western Nebraska Veterans Home in Scottsbluff, Nebraska under the care of Prairie Haven Hospice. Visitation hours will be held at the Colyer Funeral Home on Monday, from 1pm to 7pm; Tuesday from 9am to noon; and the casket will be open at the church service. Those who wish may direct memorial contributions in Fred's honor to Our Saviour Lutheran Church Building Fund. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Colyer Funeral Home and friends are invited to send condolences to the family at www.colyerfuneralhome.com Fred was born on August 19, 1920 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska the son of John and Christina (Rieb) Mai. In 1926 the family moved to a farm at Bayard, Nebraska where Fred attended school, and in 1937 they returned to Scottsbluff where Fred worked for Great Western Sugar Company. In 1942 Fred entered the military service with the U.S. Army Air Force and he served with the 389th Service Squadron in the Pacific throughout WWII. In 1946 he was honorably discharged and in that same year, he married Carolyn Sinner at Mitchell, Nebraska. The couple farmed in Scottsbluff County until 1950 when they moved to a farm south of Torrington, Wyoming. In 1968 Fred began custom combining, a business that he continued in Goshen County until he retied in 1991. Fred enjoyed watching television and reading. He liked to garden and do yard work. He was a member of the VFW Paul A. Johnston Post 2918, the American Legion Travis Snow Post #5, and Our Saviour Lutheran Church. He is survived by his wife; three sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth Frederic and Linda Mai of Gering, Nebraska; Martin Daniel and Norma Mai of Parker, Colorado; and Christan Paul and Linda of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and two brothers, Henry of Gering, Nebraska; and Reinhart of Thornton, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents.
