Funeral services for GEORGE EARL BURGESS,98,will be held at 1pm Monday, February 7, 2011 at the Colyer Funeral Home Chapel with Arlan Stratmeyer officiating. Burialwill follow in the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Morrill, Nebraska. George died January 30, 2011 at Community Hospital in Torrington. Memorials may be made to Torrington AmbulanceService or Evergreen Court. Visitation will be Sunday from 4pm to 7pm and the casketwill be open briefly following the service. George was born January 13, 1913 in Weld County, Colorado the son of George and Margaret (Nagle) Burgess. He grew up and went to school on the flats of Colorado. He took beans and pancakes for lunch in his lard bucket lunch box. He moved to the Torrington area in 1935. He married Laura Watson on November 30, 1935 in Harrisburg, Nebraska. He farmed in the Goshen County area for many years and later while still farming worked at Couplamatic in Lyman, Nebraska. He sold the farm in 1988. Laura died November 4, 2008. He moved into Evergreen Court in June of 2010. In the last year of his life he was blessed with his grandson Greg as his companion. George enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, and spending time with his family. He played the mouth harp and the Jew’s harp. George is survived by a daughter Lois Kirschenman of Menno, South Dakota; four sons, Edwin Burgess of Casper, Wyoming, Fred Burgess of Waxahachie, Texas; Carl Burgess of Mesa, Arizona and George Burgess Jr. of Gillette, Wyoming; two brothers, Jack Burgess of Yorba Linda, California, and Dick Burgess of Cookville, Tennessee; four sisters, Patty Dyke of Hemet, California, Loraine Maxon of Crossville, Tennessee, JoAnn Davis of Nashville, Tennessee, and Marilla Mae Davis of Boulder, Colorado; twenty grandchildren; fifty-four great grandchildren; twenty-nine great–great grandchildren; and numerous other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother; wife; four brothers Herb, Neil, Bud, and Riley; one sister Lucille; one daughter Jane Davis; one great-great grandchild; and an infant sister.
