Kathleen Sue Ahearn

Kathleen Sue Ahearn, 78, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2025, at Torrington Community Hospital. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place, and no public services are planned at this time. The Colyer Funeral Home assisted the family with the cremation arrangements. Kathleen was born on March 27, 1947, in Clearfield, Pennsylvania, to Francis and Helen (Hartsock) Myers. She grew up in Freeport, Pennsylvania, where she attended school and developed a lifelong love for the arts and performance. As a young lady, she proudly served as a majorette, and later head majorette. Through those years, she formed deep and lasting friendships that she carried with her throughout her life. After graduating high school, Kathleen pursued her passion for art at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, earning a degree in Fashion Illustration in 1969. Her artistic journey led her to New York City, where she became the regional manager for Bloomingdale’s window display department. She traveled to various Bloomingdale’s locations, transforming storefronts into visual experiences that reflected her impeccable eye for design and her exquisite taste—especially in jewelry, which she wore with timeless elegance and flair. Later, she moved to San Diego, where she met her husband, Frank Ahearn. Together, they relocated to Wheatland, Wyoming, where Frank worked for Basin Electric and helped design Black Mountain Village. There they began their family and raised two children, Bryan and Devin. Kathleen embraced her role as a devoted mother and homemaker, pouring her heart into raising her children with unconditional love and care. She was always there for them, and her nurturing spirit shaped their lives in countless ways. Kathleen’s creativity touched every aspect of her life—from her beautifully tended flower gardens to her sophisticated sense of style. In the 1980s, she helped run the Platte County Pageant Agencies, empowering young women to find confidence and shine in their own unique ways. Kathleen also won first place in Platte County’s “Cooking With Beef” contest for her family-favorite “Popover Pizza” recipe. After her separation from Frank in 1993, Kathleen moved to Colorado, where she held various administrative roles before retiring in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, to be near her daughter. In 2015, she moved to Torrington to be even closer to her grandchildren, who were truly the light of her life. Her love for them was boundless, and even in her final days, her joy centered around their laughter and presence. Kathleen had many passions, including playing the piano, painting, flower arranging, and traveling. Her artistic spirit for life was evident in everything she did. She had a gift for making the ordinary beautiful and left a lasting impression on everyone she met. She is survived by her children, Bryan (Tara) Ahearn and Devin (Cody) Prather; her cherished grandchildren, Jett Ahearn, Elijah Prather, and Evelyn Prather; her sister, Judy (Mike) Coco; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Helen Myers. Kathleen’s love, creativity, and devotion to her family and friends will live on in the hearts of those who knew her. Her memory will forever shine brightly in the lives she touched.
