Lila Miles McKiney

TORRINGTON, WYOMING............Funeral services for LILA AGNES (MILES) MCKINEY, 82, will be held at 10am Thursday, July 10, 2008 at the Colyer Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon Rolland Raboin officiating. Burial will follow in the Valley View Cemetery. Lila died at Community Hospital on July 5, 2008. Memorials may be made to the Nursing Scholarship c/o Marlyn B. Anderson Post #56 at Veteran, Wyoming. Visitation will be Wednesday from 3pm to 7pm and briefly following the service. Lila was born May 9, 1926 in Canning, South Dakota the daughter of William “Mac” and Lena (Muehlethaler) Miles. When she was six months old her family moved to Newport, Washington where she grew up and received her education from Newport High School. She then entered the work force. She met her “future husband” Don McKiney, during WWII while he was stationed in Spokane, Washington. Following his discharge the couple married in Torrington, Wyoming on June 25, 1946. The couple honeymooned in Deadwood, South Dakota when it was just a mining town. They then settled near Veteran, Wyoming on a farm until 1955 when they returned to Washington for one year. They moved back to Veteran where they remained. Lila loved and enjoyed her family, especially her grandsons and great grandchildren. She was an avid reader and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Lila is survived by two sons, Donald “Mac” McKiney and his wife Sue of Torrington, Wyoming, and Patrick McKiney and his wife Charlene of Manhattan, Kansas; grandson Bill McKiney and his wife Joyce of Veteran, Wyoming; great grandchildren, Kacie McKiney of Keystone, South Dakota and Tyler and Darci McKiney of Veteran; step-granddaughter Jamee Edmonson of Junction City, Kansas; step-great grandson Tyler Edmonson of Junction City; one brother, Eugene “Babe” Miles of Yakima, Washington; four sisters, Virginia Bridges of Newport, Washington, Polly Miller of Newport, Hazel Bauer of Newport, and Maxine Pitts of Old Town, Idaho. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one grandson, Cody McKiney; one sister Marion Slusser; and two brothers Edward Miles and Bill Miles.
