Margaret "Mary" Kirkpatrick

A celebration of life for MARGARET "MARY" KIRKPATRICK, 96, will be held 10:30am Monday June 15, 2026, at the First Congregational Church with Reverend Matt Gordon officiating. A reception will follow at the church. Mary passed away peacefully June 9, 2026, at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center with her loving family at her side. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Senior Friendship Center or the First Congregational Church in Mary's name. Arrangements are under the direction of the Colyer Funeral Home and condolences may be sent to www.colyerfuneralhome.com Mary was born January 27, 1930, in La Crosse, Wisconsin to Seymour and Mary (Regan) Meister. She grew up in La Crosse, and it was there she went to school and received her early education. She received her education for nursing in La Crosse at Saint Francis School of Nursing. She also earned a Masters in Gerontology from the University of Northern Colorado in 1988. She married Robert Akright in May of 1951, in Minnesota. To this union three children were born; Reginald, Kathleen and Steven. The couple later divorced. While raising her family she relocated them to Torrington where she found her forever home. A very dedicated mother, she gave all she could to ensure that her children had the best upbringing. Five years after moving to Torrington she met and married Robert “Bob” Kirkpatrick June 15, 1969. Mary was a very well-known person in Goshen County. She had a long career serving many people, providing them with very passionate and loving care. Nursing was her passion and she was very proud of being one of the very first Public Health Nurses in Torrington. She helped to write the curriculum for the first CNA program in Wyoming. A pioneer in nursing, she helped pave the way for many aspiring nurses to pursue their dreams. Mary also helped to write the grants that established the Senior Friendship Center and the Meals on Wheels program in Torrington. Of all the things that she accomplished in life, the biggest was being a loving mother, grandmother and friend. Family was the true center of her life, the one thing that really kept her grounded and she would have done anything to help them in any way she could. The everlasting impression Mary left on those she knew will go on for many generations to come. Mary is survived by her three children; Reginald Akright of Everett, Washington, Kathleen Juniker of Cheyenne, Wyoming and Steven Akright of Torrington, Wyoming, granddaughter Margaret "Marge" (Bryan) Riedl, her loving dog Huny and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Bob Kirkpatrick, parents Seymour and Mary Meister, and a son-in-law Michael Juniker.
