Marie Korhonen

TORRINGTON, WYOMING...........Funeral services for MARIE F. KORHONEN 100, will be held at 10AM Saturday, November 8, 2008 at Our Savior Lutheran Church with Reverend Marvin Temme officiating. Burial will follow in the Valley View Cemetery where her body will rest until the Resurrection. Marie died November 5, 2008 at Community Hospital in Torrington. Memorials have been established to the church or the Special Touch Program at Community Hospital. Arrangements are under the direction of the Colyer Funeral Home and friends may send condolences to the family at www.colyerfuneralhome.com Marie was born June 21, 1908 in Lincoln, Nebraska the third of nine children of Alexander and Katherina Maria (Dreuth) Frosheiser. She received Christian baptism in infancy and was a life long member of the Lutheran Church. From her teens she was a church organist and Sunday School teacher. She grew up on a homestead near Keeline, Wyoming, and graduated from Manville High School in 1925 and taught in Niobrara County elementary schools for teen years. In 1935 she married Uno J. Korhonen, a native of Superior, Wyoming. Their marriage was blessed with four children. The Korhonen family came to Torrington in 1946. Marie received her B.S. Degree from the University of Wyoming in 1962. She retired in 1973 after eighteen years of teaching third grade at Lincoln School. Marie was an active member of her church for many years, a volunteer at the Goshen Care Center, a member of Retired Teachers, a gardener, a needleworker, and a bridge player. Marie is survived by two sons, John (Elizabeth) Korhonen of Aiken, South Carolina and Ray Korhonen of Tucson, Arizona; one daughter Betty (Bill) Law of Torrington, Wyoming; six grandchildren, Charles (Tammy) Kenyon of Torrington, John (Deb) Kenyon of Stephensville, Michigan, Kisa (Tommy) Raye of Bogart, Georgia, Mary Paige (Erik) Kurilla of Burke, Virginia, Alicia (Jeff) Ayres of Lehi, Utah, and Trevor Law of Laramie, Wyoming; ten great grandchildren; and two sisters, Elizabeth Lingwood of Florida, and Katherine McKinnis of Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter Alice Marie Kenyon; two grand children; and six siblings.
