TORRINGTON, WYO...... Memorial grave side services for RAYMOND VASSAR, 85, will be held at 11:00am on Monday, June 25, 2007 at the Valley View Cemetery with The Rev. Father Kevin Koch officiating. Raymond died on June 21, 2007 at Peaks Care Center in Longmont, Colorado. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, the family would request that memorial contributions be directed to the Goshen Care Center's Alzheimer's Unit in Torrington. Arrangements are under the direction of the Colyer Funeral Home and friends are invited to send condolences to the family at www.colyerfuneralhome.com Raymond was born on January 6, 1922 in South Portland, Maine the son of Raymond and Esther (Perrin) Vassar. He grew up and attended school in South Portland; graduating high school there in 1939. He then moved to Long Beach, California where he bartended at local night clubs. In 1952 he married Joan Stashwich in California and in 1960 they moved their family to Downer's Grove, Illinois. Raymond and Joan later divorced. Raymond continued to live in Downer's Grove where he bartended at various clubs and restaurants. On September 23, 1979, he married Annabel Schuchard Kluge. The couple then moved to Arkansas where Raymond tended bar part time at the Moose Club until he retired and he and Annabel moved to Torrington, Wyoming in 1999. Due to health problems, Raymond entered Mountain Towers Care Center in Cheyenne, Wyoming and had only recently been living at Peaks Care Center in Colorado. Raymond enjoyed reading and watching various sports on television. He was a member of the Moose Club and of the St. Rose Catholic Church in Torrington. He is survived by his wife, Annabel of Torrington; son Thomas Vassar of Longmont, Colorado, two daughters, Janice Vassar also of Longmont, and Judy Vassar of Denver, Colorado; three step-sons, Steven Kluge of Clear Lake, South Dakota, Mark (Phyllis) Kluge of Spanish Fort, Alabama, and Alan Kluge of Elizabeth City, North Carolina; and one step-daughter, Gail (Bill) Taylor of Clear Lake, South Dakota; five sisters, Dorothy (Ed) Killinger; Toni (Don) Herbert; and Peggy Smith all of South Portland, Maine; Terry Perry of Falmouth, Maine; and Mary Ellen (Leo) Daniels of Marietta, Ohio; eight step grandchildren, and eight step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Thomas and Jack; and one granddaughter, Jennifer Taylor.
