Roger Roy Lundberg

Roger Roy Lundberg took his seat in the family circle on June 23, 2026. The second of 4 children, he was born on March 20, 1944 to Roy and Berneece (Georgeson) Lundberg in Kimball Nebraska. His early years were spent on the family farm south of Albin, WY. The family later moved to the Lundberg Ranch north of Laramie. The ranch was a place of brutally hard work, boundless hospitality and remarkable music. The Lord Jesus Christ was at the center of the family and His Life and Love were plainly evident. Hundreds of family and friends flowed through the gate off of US30 to share in the labor, the fellowship and the music. The ranch formed Roger into what he was; an incredibly hard worker, a remarkably generous neighbor, a wonderful musician and ultimately a faithful follower of Christ. Roger graduated from Laramie High School in 1963 and then embarked on his working journey. He was drafted into the US Army in 1965 and served in Vietnam. Upon his return to the US he met and married his first wife Edie in Laramie in 1967. They had 3 children: Matthew Leonard, Erik Lee and Heidi Lynn. Years later he met his forever love, Gale Wheat. The two were married on May 10, 1975. Roger and Gale settled in Rock Springs in 1977 where he worked in the Wyoming oil fields as an equipment operator, truck driver, owner operator and truck pusher. He largely worked moving oil rigs from location to location in the desert west and came to love the Wyoming Red Desert and the freedom it represents. The couple were part of the E Free Church in Rock Springs where they made lifelong friends and served and ministered to friends and neighbors. Semi-retiring in 2005, they “snowbirded” in their 5 th wheel trailer to western Arizona. The nomadic lifestyle didn’t suit them (by them, I mean Gale) and they ultimately resettled on a small piece of ground near Torrington, WY where Roger returned to his farming roots and served the agricultural community in a variety of capacities. During their time in Rock Springs, Roger got serious about his guitar. He honed his skills through constant practice and developed a unique style that he shared with everyone he encountered. He collaborated with numerous other musicians and played at thousands of church services, weddings, funerals, civic gatherings and family events. The best music, and the best times, were when he played the hymns of his childhood with his lifelong best friend and brother Brian. Roger’s legacy is not in his work, though he loved to work and did so until his body could not go any further. His legacy is in the impact that he had on those around him. If you needed help, you didn’t have to ask for it, he was there. If you were interested in the guitar, he would give you one. If you were struggling, he would be there. He loved to reminisce and write poetry about the ranch, he always had a manure spreader for sale and he always had a joke to share (probably about Ole & Lena). To know him is to love him. Roger was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws Creede and Jean Wheat, his sister-in- law Peggy (Wheat) Noel, and his brother-in-law Kenneth (Linda) Tuinstra. He is survived by his wonderful, supportive, loving wife of 51 years, Gale Lundberg; his siblings Linda Tuinstra, Brian (Barb) Lundberg and Judy (Paul) Battershell and his brothers-in-law Jim (Bonnie) Noel and Jim (Debbie) Wheat. He is also survived by his children: Matthew (Neika), Erik (Leah) and Heidi (or Prairie); his grandchildren Sean, C’Anna (Jeff), Kael (Atira), Hope, Austin, Devon, Greta and Padma; and two great-grandchildren Opal and Archie. He also leaves behind a large extended family of cousins, nephews and nieces whom he loved as well as an extended church family that has truly borne us all up through this time. A memorial service will be held August 1 at 11 AM at the Fort Laramie Community Center. Cremation has taken place and he asked that his ashes be spread at his favorite spot, 40th & Plumb (40 miles from anywhere, plumb in the middle of nowhere), in the Red Desert.
